Slip Resistance
When testing a sample of Honed & Filled Marbella, our smoothest finish, it was no surprise that the dry sample passed non-slip ratings. However, when the wet sample also exceeded non-slip requirements by a wide margin, there was no question about how well suited this material would be as a safe option for wet floors. Heat Absorbtion
In a side by side test against a variety of similarly used materials, Marbella proved to stay the coolest at higher temperatures. At temperatures over 100°, Marbella Shellstone remains cooler than the temperature outside.
What does this mean for you? No burnt toes on the way to the pool, your pool deck will provide a cool environment for outdoor fun. And for wall cladding uses, Marbella acts as a beautiful layer of insulation, reflecting the sun’s rays.

With 3988 PSI, a 124.0 Density Average and an 8.088% Water Absorption Average, Marbella earns a Medium-Density (Class II) rating.
Frost Resistance
After being thoroughly soaked in water, test samples of Marbella Shellstone were subjected to fifteen cycles of freezing to 0°F and thawing to 55°F. Through all these cycles, the samples remained entirely unchanged demonstrating that Marbella is a great material to bring a tropical feel to a cold climate year round; and you won't have to worry as it sits underneath snow in the winter.
Compressive Strength
Marbella Shellstone has a higher compressive strength than many other shellstones and coral stones on the market.
Installation & Maintenance
The following are some general tips that we often see overlooked, which have proven the most helpful in avoiding complications. Always adhere to policies and restrictions set by authorities of the trade and your local governing bodies.
Installation:
- Ensure you are selecting an appropriate stone for your intended use. As an example, any exterior or bathroom applications should consider slip resistance.
- Slabs crack, especially when they are newly poured. When installing stone on a new slab or any surface that may shift over time, use a crack suppression membrane.
- Consider the color of your stone when choosing your setting materials. Lighter colored stones should be installed with white Mortar and Thin-Set to avoid discoloration of the stone.
- Seal your stone as soon as possible to avoid potential contamination. The manufacturer recommends applying your first coat prior to grouting and the second coat after the job is completed and cleaned. We recommend Miracle 511 Porous Plus.
Maintenance
Clean periodically using a neutral pH stone soap and light agitation with a soft-bristle brush. Specialized products are available for more thorough cleanings. We recommend Miracle Tile & Stone Cleaner.
Never use aggressive methods (like power-washing) to clean natural stone. It will erode the surface, opening pores that allow entry of dirt and debris into the stone.
More severe areas should be judged on a case-by-case basis. Thorough cleaning may require various chemicals depending on their nature. We often recommend Miracle Heavy Duty Cleaner (Acid Substitute) for general cleaning and grout haze.
Reseal your stone often. Test if the sealer is still active by applying water to the surface. If the water beads and the stone does not change color, the sealer is still working. If you see the water get absorbed, darkening the color of the stone, it is time to reseal. We recommend Miracle 511 Porous Plus.
